Description
We are looking for a motivated student to join our Visitor Services team as a Visitor Services Assistant for the summer of 2023. This position will contribute to the welcoming environment for all Wanuskewin visitors and guests by focusing on service excellence through ensuring park visitors are informed about trail conditions, programs, regulations, and issues or concerns related to public health and safety. The successful candidate will work closely with all department, under supervision of the Customer Experience Manager.
The anticipated start date of this position is May 1, 2023
Responsibilities
- Welcome and orient groups and general public to the park, giving them the necessary information upon their arrival for their visit
- Answer and direct phone calls and emails
- Assist the Tour Coordinator in finalizing weekly tour schedules and ensure information is distributed appropriately and in a timely manner
- Support Wanuskewin staff in a wide variety of administrative and coordination capacities
- Ensure a positive, timely and concise manner when addressing questions and concerns with park customers
- Assist in the start to finish process of event planning and coordination, ensuring the best customer service possible
- Communicate effectively with departments on park bookings and booking details
- Support finance department when required with accurate data entry within payables, inventory receivables, exhibit change support
- Daily open and close of till, ensuring payments have been received and accounts balance out
- Ensure all supplies needed for a successful welcome area are kept up to date and stocked
- Assist with organizing and keeping up to date information for Wanuskewin’s membership program
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate would be a post-secondary student in tourism, hospitality, administration, museum studies, Indigenous studies, or event planning and must be a returning student in the autumn of 2023. Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous cultures is required, as is previous customer service experience. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems would be considered an asset.

- Self-starter and self-directed with initiative
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) expected
- Customer service experience and conflict resolution abilities
- Reliable transportation
Position Funding
This position will be funded through the Government of Canada’s Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCWBCH) program. A candidate may be eligible for an YCWBCH internship if they:
- are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
- are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
- are unemployed or underemployed;
- are a college or university graduate; and
- are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.
Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in the YCWBCH program. This position is funded through a grant and is dependent on funding availability
