Wanuskewin is looking to add to our list of Dancers and Drummers/Singers for events, special requests, and daily/weekend dance presentations.
Examples of opportunities are:
- Weekend dance presentations throughout the year (Jan – Dec) for general public as part of Wanuskewin’s public programming
- Daily dance presentations from May – September
- Online learning sessions with classes, schools, and other groups
- Special requests to be part of meetings, conferences, and opening celebrations
- Wanuskewin events throughout the year
- Possible video projects for powwow dancing, education, and resources
For the daily dance presentations, which are an integral part of Wanuskewin’s public programming, you will be required to do a 45-60 minute presentation from introduction to questions and photos with any visitors and guests. Here is a sample order:
- Discuss your background and history:
- How long you have been dancing?
- How did you get started dancing?
- Information about you, your life and why you choose to dance.
- Dance Song 1
- Talk about the history of the dance, pow wows
- Question and answer period
- Dance Song 2
- Talk about your regalia or tell a story about your experiences dancing
- Question and answer period
- Dance Song 3 – to close
- Time for pictures – (Following current provincial COVID guidelines)
- Interact with the crowd/questions/instruction
