Position Summary:
The Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing the setup, service, and breakdown of events, ensuring that each banquet runs smoothly and efficiently. This role involves leading and directing the banquet server team, coordinating with kitchen staff, and ensuring exceptional service standards are maintained throughout the event. The Banquet Captain is key in managing the flow of service, addressing guest needs, and ensuring that all event details are executed to the client’s satisfaction. The Captain acts as the point of contact for guests and other event staff, ensuring that all aspects of the banquet experience meet or exceed expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and supervising a team of banquet servers ensuring efficient, high-quality service during events.
- Creating and managing banquet team schedules, ensuring proper staffing for each event based on client requirements and event details.
- Training, mentoring, and providing ongoing support to banquet team members to ensure service standards are met.
- Utilizing Banquet Event Orders (BEO), overseeing the setup, service, and breakdown of banquet areas, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all tasks including setting up and troubleshooting AV requirements.
- Meeting with conveners to review BEO ensuring their needs are met prior to the event.
- Servicing rooms during banquets and meetings including delivering menu items to rooms and clearing banquet tables.
- Managing guest service during the event, ensuring all needs are met and addressing any issues promptly
- Preparing and executing room set up check sheets, and closing check sheets.
- Attending weekly BEO meetings
- Assisting the Manager, Food & Beverage with staff management ensuring a high-performing, engaged, and cohesive team.
- Works in a safe manner, following safety regulations
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum two years of relevant experience in hospitality service
- A suitable combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- CPR, First Aid certification considered an asset.
- Food safe level 1 considered an asset.
- Customer Service Certificate an asset.
- Knowledge of restaurant and catering methodology and practices.
- Knowledge of Indigenous plains culture.
- Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve.
- Ability to work early mornings, nights and weekends.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and present a satisfactory drivers abstract.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically fit. Able to stand, walk, lift for the majority of the shift as well as able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds or more.

A satisfactory criminal record check is required as a condition of employment.
