Full job description

This position is responsible for coordinating the curator activities for Wanuskewin’s East and West galleries, as well as the Exhibit Hall areas, and Artist in Residence program.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Wanuskewin’s collection of artifacts and works of art. This includes management of policies, researching best practices, managing acquisitions and dispositions, and maintaining the database.
  • Responsible for overseeing art installations and curating exhibitions.
  • Supervises the Gallery Assistant in planning, organizing, interpreting and presenting exhibits and lectures.
  • Supervises the Gallery Assistant in coordinating the Olivia & Greg Yuel Artist-in-Residence Program.
  • Maintains the permanent exhibit hall and displays objects or collections in a way that makes them accessible and engaging to the public.
  • Writes materials and articles for the website, internal and external publications.
  • Participates in administering grants and projects, including applications and reporting.
  • Negotiates loan items and external loans and accompanying funding.
  • Manages department and project budgets.
  • Liaison and network with stakeholder organizations and industry professionals.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety in the workplace, including in one’s own work, that of the team and that of the entire organization.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Fine Arts, or a related degree.
  • 4 years’ experience direct museum or with an established gallery.
  • A suitable combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.
  • An acceptable criminal record check.
  • A class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Extensive knowledge of North American Indigenous arts and cultures would be an asset.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $69,746.00-$81,607.00 per year
