Wanuskewin Galleries presents You See Me/Kiwapamin, in collaboration with The 525 Art Collective
You See Me/Kiwapamin brings together works by contemporary Indigenous artists who use portraiture to explore identity, memory, and representation. While portraiture has historically been used to define how people are seen, many artists today approach it as a space to question, reinterpret, and assert their own perspectives.
Across the exhibition, artists draw on personal experience, cultural references, and contemporary practices to expand what portraiture can be. The works move beyond simple likeness to consider presence, storytelling, and the relationship between artist, subject, and viewer.
You See Me/Kiwapamin invites visitors to reflect on how identity is expressed and understood through portraiture, and how contemporary artists continue to reshape the ways people see and represent one another.
