Summer Camps are Back at Wanuskewin!

Join us for another season of our Kids Day Camps to connect to the land, traditional teachings, and Wanuskewin.

2023 DAY CAMPS:

FULL – NO SPACES AVAILABLE – July 10 – 14, 2023 – Archeology Focus  “Uncovering the Past”
Ages 8-13 years

Do you love finding treasure? Getting your hands dirty? Ever wonder what Archaeology is? And how it can be used in so many ways to tell stories and uncover details of the past? Then this camp is for you!  Spend time with our on-site archeologists, interpreters, and community knowledge holders to learn the stories of some of our unique finds over the years. Try your hand at digging in our mock digging sites, playing games, learning about the bison supermarket, hunting, and about the science and cultural connections of Wanuskewin.

July 17 – 21, 2023 – Arts Focus  “Colours of the Plains”
Ages 8-13 years

This week we will be focusing on making! You’ll have the chance to connect with local Indigenous artists through things like painting, beading, sewing, music, dancing, our galleries on site, and more. Learn about different traditional art forms, and some of the teachings and stories behind them. Discover some plants of the opimihāw valley, and how they were used to create adornment and art. And end the week with so many new art connections and hand made crafts.

July 31 – August 4, 2023  – Land Focus “Learning from the Land”
Ages 8-13 years

There is so much to learn from the land here at Wanuskewin, and this week we will explore things like foraging, hide tanning, tipi set up, bison, medicines, gardening, and more. Local knowledge holders will share traditional teachings and connections to the plants, animals, water, and stories of this area. Have you ever grown your own vegetables or wondered where you could get food before there were grocery stores? Made your own clothes and toys from what is around you? Or wondered what it would be like to live on the land here pre-contact? Can you survive and thrive in some of the challenges presented during the week? Learn all of this and more!
