What to do at Wanuskewin this July:
Visit Wanuskewin this July to learn more about Northern Plains Indigenous cultures, histories, and stories. Your admission covers access to our Visitor Centre’s exhibit hall and art galleries, a nearly 7km trail network, playground, and Bison Viewing Platform. Our on-site Restaurant and Gift Shop are open daily.
Every day, there will be public programming that you can join that is free with your admission, as well as a public Daily / Music Dance Presentation at 1:00 p.m. Self-guided activities like scavenger hunts are available at the front desk. Check our events calendar for any workshops, markets, events, gatherings, or specialty days.
Operating Hours:
- Visitor Centre, Trails, and Playground: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Restaurant: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- On-site Gift Shop: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (weekdays) | 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (weekends)
*Please note that on statutory holidays in May to September, we are open 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Join us in building an 8' tipi as we share the Plains Cree style tipi teachings that were gifted to Wanuskewin by Elder Mary Lee.

Public Drop-in Games
Stop by our drop-in games station to try your hand at a variety of traditional games.

Since time immemorial, Northern Plains Indigenous children have been taught survival skills in the form of games. Try your hand at playing some traditional games to practice your hunting, physical, and social skills during this interactive program!

Walk the opimihāw Valley with a guide and see the land from the perspective of Northern Plains Indigenous peoples.

Walk the opimihāw Valley with a guide and see the land from the perspective of Northern Plains Indigenous peoples. With a focus on the bison jump method of hunting and tipis as an ideal home on the plains, you will explore the relationship between the people of the plains and the environment around them.

Learn about the plants in the opimihāw Valley that Indigenous peoples use for sustenance, shelter, and tools. This program emphasizes the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the land, and our role as stewards of the ecosystems we live in.
In accordance with our Trail Rules participants will not be allowed to harvest, gather, pick, or consume any plants while on this program.
