What to do at Wanuskewin this summer:
Visit Wanuskewin this summer to learn more about Northern Plains Indigenous cultures, histories, and stories. Your admission covers access to our Visitor Centre’s exhibit hall and art gallery, daily public programming, 7km trail network, playground, and Bison Viewing Platform. We also have a Restaurant and Gift Shop on-site that are open daily. Self-guided activities like scavenger hunts are available at the front desk. Check out our events calendar for any events, gatherings, or specialty days.
Operating Hours:
- Visitor Centre, Trails, and Playground: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Restaurant: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- On-site Gift Shop: 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (weekdays) | 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (weekends)
Public Programming – July 2025
Starting July 3rd, join the interpretive guides on our Visitor Services team for daily public programming throughout the day. All public programs are free with your admission–if you want to join any public program, just ask at the front desk where to meet!

Our interpretive guides provide a variety of public programs that rotate throughout the week, which you can see below:

*In the event of poor weather, all outdoor programs will be moved indoors when possible, or swapped to a different program.

Explore the bison jump method of hunting that was used here at the nēwo asinīyak Bison Jump in the opimihāw Valley! You will learn more about the relationship between Northern Plains Indigenous peoples and bison, and how the Wanuskewin bison herd is revitalizing culture and the environment.

Public Tipi Teachings
Join us in building an 8' tipi as we share the Plains Cree style tipi teachings that were gifted to Wanuskewin by Elder Mary Lee.

Join a dancer, drummer, or fiddler during our public Daily Dance / Music Presentation every afternoon in the summer!

Location: Path of the People Trail (outside)
Age Group: Ages 10+
Cost: Free with admission
Learn about the plants in the opimihāw Valley that Indigenous peoples use for sustenance, shelter, and tools. This program emphasizes the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the land, and our role as stewards of the ecosystems we live in.
In accordance with our Trail Rules participants will not be allowed to harvest, gather, pick, or consume any plants while on this program.

Public Traditional Games
Try your hand at playing some traditional games to practice your survival skills during this interactive program!
Location: Circle Area (inside) or Amphitheatre (outside) – weather dependent
Age Group: All ages
Cost: Free with admission
Since time immemorial, Northern Plains Indigenous children have been taught survival skills in the form of games. Try your hand at playing some traditional games to practice your hunting, physical, and social skills during this interactive program!

With a focus on the bison jump method of hunting and tipis as an ideal home on the plains, you will explore the relationship between the people of the plains and the environment around them.
