Lucy Fern grew up in Fond Du Lac, a remote community in Northern Saskatchewan. Lucy is known as positive and strong in spirit, and her pride in her Dene language and culture is evident in her lifestyle and work. Lucy has a Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work with a Minor in Art from the First Nations University of Canada. Her long term goal is to obtain a Masters in Counselling and eventually work as an art therapist. Her artwork, acrylic and beads on canvas with her signature ‘shimmer and shine’ style, is about relationships with people, the land, and Creator. Lucy currently resides in Prince Albert with her three children.

DENE LAWS focuses on sharing Dene treasure. Each of the Dene Laws have a deep meaning and are essential in developing relationships with the cosmos, culture, and language. Our ancestors passed on gifts of strong language through art, syllabics, and orthography. By intertwining language and culture, we revitalize our heritage, which informs parts of our identity.
A special thank you to Athabasca Basin Development for their generous sponsorship and partnering with the Olivia and Greg Yuel Artist-in-Residence Program to bring Indigenous artists from the Athabasca Basin to Wanuskewin.
