Jerry Whitehead is of Cree heritage from the James Smith Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, and is based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. Since childhood, art has been a lifelong passion for Jerry. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in India Arts (S.I.F.C) from the University of Regina in 1983. Jerry then went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1987.
We are pleased to invite you to the opening reception of "Coming Back", a new exhibition created by Artist-in-Residence Jerry Whitehead.
For artist Jerry Whitehead, taking part in the Olivia and Greg Yuel Artist-in-Residence Program felt like a homecoming. Coming Back captures the essence of full-circle moments in his life – returning to Wanuskewin after many years, a revival of early artistic styles, and a feeling of deep spiritual connection to the return of the Bison to the land. These powerful themes are the forces behind Coming Back, a vibrant celebration of Plains Cree culture that sets Whitehead’s iconic powwow dancers in motion.
Join us on Saturday, November 22nd, 6-8pm at Wanuskewin for a first look of Coming Back, an artist talk from Jerry Whitehead, and refreshments.
