Showcasing artist Azby Whitecalf
“My residency will explore the experiences of being a queer two-spirit person and navigating adulthood, the modern western hook-up culture, and the complex relationship between Indigenous femininity and sexuality. My focus is on exploring the relationship of sexuality and gender of Indigenous womxn and LGBT2S+, and finding ways to put these emotions and queries into a creative voice that will mouth these stories. Most of my pieces will be derived from being isolated on the reserve for most of my life and then being thrown into a huge city that had opened a cavity of sexual and gender exploration- and the journey of this craving to taste every bit of want, need and desire.”
The artist will be on site 12pm-4pm Tuesdays through Saturdays, from June until September.
